The hacker from Vladimir mined cryptocurrency on state computers

​​​​​​​The unsuccessful miner is facing a prison sentence.

The press service of the UFSB in the Vladimir Oblast reported the detention of the hacker who broke into the state information system of one of the regions. According to the investigation, the 42-year-old attacker used the computing resources of the captured computers for cryptocurrency mining.

The hacking was carried out in January 2017 but the criminal case on this fact was brought only at the present time. The press service of the UFSB does not specify how long the cybercriminal had the access to the computational power of state structures and how many coins he managed to extract.

The criminal case under Article 273.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was initiated against the hacker. He faces an imprisonment for up to four years or forced labor for five years.

Recently the miners from Orenburg who abducted electricity for cryptocurrency mining in the territory of the abandoned factory were forced to pay electric grid company damages in the amount of 78 million rubles. In addition both violators had to pay 200 thousand rubles fine.
