The conflict with the US financial regulator forced the crypto-investor to change his plans.
The well-known cryptoenthusiast and the founder of MGT Capital Investments John McAfee said that he stopped the activities related to ICO-projects and their promotion. The reason for this decision was a recent conflict with the representatives of the Securities and Exchanges Commission (SEC) of the United States.
«Due to SEC threats, I am no longer working with ICOs nor am I recommending them, and those doing ICOs can all look forward to arrest. It is unjust but it is reality. I am writing an article on an equivalent alternative to ICOs which the SEC cannot touch. Please have Patience», − McAfee wrote on his Twitter account.
Earlier the cryptoenthusiast sharply criticized the head of the SEC Jay Clayton who had equated ICO-tokens with securities that are the subject of the regulatory rules. McAfee said that such an assessment from the official was an «absurd» and therefore he intended «to fight to the last breath».
In late May 2018 McAfee announced the release of his own cryptocurrency McAfee Coin. According to the founder of MGT Capital Investments, the coin was to become the «collectible fiat currency backed up by the crypt».
In early June McAfee announced his intention to run for the presidency of USA in the election in 2020. The businessman then stated that his election would «serve the interests of the crypto community».
